Sewit Eskinder is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Fargo, North Dakota. Singing since she could speak, acting for over a decade, and recently foraying into painting, Sewit’s view of the world has always been clearest through creative expression. At the heart of her artistic practice is poetry--her passion--where she finds the truest reflection of her inner world.
Sewit’s poetry is deeply personal and draws from the complexities of her own experiences. In her process of continuous revision, she revisits and refines her words to bring clarity to her coming-of-age relationships. Her writing is theatrical. It’s built on the need for human connection, employing repetition and freeform structures to emulate the rhythms of conversation. Using emotive language, she evokes a sense of nostalgia while reflecting on the transformative moments that have shaped her. Throughout her work, she reflects on the non-linear path of personal growth and the hopefulness engrained within the human condition.
Putting words to the complex experiences of finding her voice, Sewit’s writing is a journey of vulnerability. With a tender and honest artistic delivery, her poetry offers a raw and open invitation into her process of growth and discovery.
